There are currently no planned performances.
This event was last at Norden Farm a couple of months ago, in March 2013.
Stravinsky Scherzo à la Russe
Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto
Elgar Symphony No.2
The sparkling Stravinsky score which opens this concert was originally written for a jazz band, and was then orchestrated by him and first performed in 1946.
Following her superlative account of the Sibelius Concerto in 2008 we welcome back Alexandra Wood to play one of the finest and most popular of all violin concertos. The recipient of countless awards and the winner of many international competitions, she now concentrates on giving recitals and appearing as soloist with various orchestras including the Philharmonia and the City of London Sinfonia. She recently released a highly acclaimed new CD of world premiere recordings.
Of his Second Symphony Elgar said 'It's spirit is intended to be high and pure joy' and its opening phrases are certainly full of exuberance and energy, but there are many darker and more deeply introspective aspects to this work, one of Elgar's greatest and most profound scores.
Please note - tickets are no longer available at the Norden Farm Box Office. Tickets will be available on the night of the event at the door.
