Elizabeth Toye (soprano)

Handel Advent & Christmas music from The Messiah

Warlock Three Carols

Menotti Shepherds Chorus from Amahl and the Night Visitors

Corelli Concerto Grosso Op.6/8 Christmas Concerto

Handel's great Messiah has been the cornerstone of British music-making for over two centuries. Completed in just twenty-four days, it is remarkable for its consistently high level of inspiration. The first half of the concert will consist of the choruses and soprano solos from Messiah which lead up to and include the Christmas music and conclude with the Hallelujah chorus.

Soloist Elisabeth Toye is in demand both in opera and as an oratorio soloist, notably at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, and in Canterbury Cathedral.

In the second half, Corelli's Christmas Concerto, with its varied and inventive melodies and its grave and sonorous slow movements leads on to Warlock's delightful Three Carols and a chorus from Menotti's opera Amahl and the Night Visitors.

We finish in the Christmas spirit with some carols, including an opportunity for the audience to join in.

There will be tickets available on the door.
